Brochure & Catalogue Design for Photography Exhibition

Чкрап! is a photography club founded in 2003 in Tetovo that has members from the city, the entire country, and from abroad. Group exhibitions have become a yearly tradition that takes place every fall, featuring photography of different styles and genres, embracing technical excellence and diverse expression. I joined the club in 2022, and this year I was honored to participate for the second time, with 3 photographs.

2023 marks the 20-year jubilee since the club was founded, and I was asked to design a storytelling brochure in honor of the jubilee and this year's photo exhibition catalogue.

On the cover of the brochure, I decided to feature a photograph by one of the club's most renowned members - Sashko Ilov - Dete. His photography features realistic subjects in his very abstract, almost painterly style. This added dimension and texture to the cover while letting the typography be the main character - the big 20 needed the spotlight.

Finally and most importantly, the photograph allowed me to play with placing the text between the interesting white and black shapes it has, to create the composition of the cover.

The visual identity of Чкрап! is sleek, modern, and minimal, always bringing the photography into the spotlight. The design of the brochure reflects this.

I designed the brochure like a mini editorial magazine, taking its readers through 20 years of tradition. From the columns of text on page 4 and their title with an extra long dash - to the photography layouts and black strips, everything is designed with geometric precision and breathing space.

The brochure features a short story about the club, photographs by its oldest and most renowned members, and brochures, posters, and memories from its yearly exhibitions.

The back of the cover features a list of all Чкрап!'s members to this date, which number more than 80. The design takes an aesthetically intriguing layout where the lists face themselves like a mirror and shape a unique negative space in the middle. This adds the final contemporary touch to the brochure.

The 2023 Catalogue

The next design in focus was the photo catalogue featuring photos from each photographer that participated in this year's exhibition. The exhibition featured 19 photographers with 36 photographs.

I designed it to be consistent with the brochure, maintaining the same contemporary and sleek style.

The left sides of the pages put the photographers in the spotlight with lots of negative space in an inverse black-and-white color palette. The right side is fully taken over by the photographs and their titles. The black background of the left side extends for the photos with white frames.
